The exhibition

Caroto e le arti tra Mantegna e Veronese (Caroto and the Arts between Mantegna and Veronese) is the first exhibition dedicated to this artist born in Verona. It is ideally linked to similar other events promoted by the Direzione Musei Civici di Verona and dedicated to Mantegna (2006-2007) and Paolo Veronese (2014), completing a sort of trilogy on Verona’s Renaissance.

This major exhibition, set up in the monumental spaces of the Palazzo della Gran Guardia, showcases the artistic evolution of Giovan Francesco Caroto (circa 1480 -1555), and follows him from his youthful beginnings and early career to his acknowledged role as an artist of great renown. More than 100 works from some of the most prestigious Italian and international collections inform an exhibition itinerary featuring 10 sections, with three innovative multimedia installations, with projections, and digital immersive reconstructions of historical contexts.

Promoted by the Municipality of Verona, through the Civic Museums – Museo di Castelvecchio with the patronage of Regione Veneto, the Castello Sforzesco in Milan and the Palazzo Ducale in Mantua as scientific partners, the exhibition is co-produced by Civita Mostre e Musei and curated by Francesca Rossi (Director of the Civic Museums of Verona), Gianni Peretti (Art Historian), Edoardo Rossetti (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan; Scuola Universitaria Professionale Svizzera Italiana – SUPSI, Lugano).
